Susan Magrino, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

Susan Magrino is an accomplished marketing, branding and public relations professional with more than 30 distinguished years of experience. Having founded Magrino in 1992 following a nine-year career at Crown Publishing, Susan has built the company into what is today regarded as one of the premier public relations firms in the industry.  They have and continue to work with the leading consumer brands worldwide, including Starwood Hotels, William Grant & Sons, Moët Hennessy, Ralph Lauren, the Smithsonian Institution, the Hearst Corporation, Baccarat, and The New York Times, among many others.

 

Over the course of her career, Susan has been instrumental in building and publicizing some of the world’s most prestigious brands including: Martha Stewart, with whom she has worked since 1983; national retail companies including Macy’s, Dillard’s and Kmart; internationally-renowned hospitality brands Virgin Atlantic Airways, One&Only Resorts and Qatar Airways; the re-launch of the historic Miami Beach hotel Fontainebleau featuring the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and the re-launch of New York’s legendary Plaza hotel; culinary, wine and spirits leaders ranging from Dom Pérignon and Veuve Clicquot to Lavazza Coffee to chefs Alain Ducasse, Daniel Boulud, Mario Batali and Gordon Ramsay; media brands from Charlie Rose to Harper’s Bazaar to Reader’s Digest; international cosmetics and skincare companies including Dr. Hauschka, Laura Mercier, Frederic Fekkai, and Sally Hershberger; and milestone events including the annual James Beard Foundation Awards, the Kips Bay Decorator Show House, the 75th anniversary of The Apollo Theater, and the 40th and 50th anniversaries of The Four Seasons restaurant.  Throughout her publishing career, she worked with authors including Dominick Dunne, Scott Turow, Tom Wolfe and Tama Janowitz. A hands-on leader, she not only oversees the fiscal growth of the agency, she is also a driving force behind much of its business.  Having maintained valuable and longstanding relationships with the agency’s clients and the media, Susan takes a proactive approach in guiding the strategic direction of campaigns and programs, bringing to each her vision, leadership, integrity, and commitment to excellence.

 

Under Susan’s direction, the agency has also been responsible for groundbreaking campaigns including the 2000 launch of Hearst Magazine’s O, The Oprah Magazine, the launch and branding of Starwood Corporation’s W Hotels, and for Coty, the launch of Celine Dion’s first fragrance, Celine, which was also recognized in the industry as one of the most successful fragrance launches in the ‘masstige’ category.  Susan has also led the agency in producing major events. Highlights include the launch of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, The Cove at Atlantis, Time Magazine’s 75th Anniversary at Radio City Music Hall, The Daily Front Row’s Annual Fashion Media Awards, and the introduction of the first-ever guide from the prestigious Michelin in North America – Michelin Guide New York City.  She has also worked with personalities ranging from Michael Douglas to Trudie Styler to Reba McEntire to Jack Welch.

 

Throughout her international travels Susan has amassed a formidable range of contacts within business, media, travel and culinary worlds.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, where she has established a scholarship and is active in alumni events.  She has served on Boards including Literacy Partners and Manitoga: The Russel Wright Design Center, and is active in supporting charities benefiting food, design and culture. Susan is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and she lives in Manhattan and the North Fork of Long Island with her husband, James Dunning, Jr.
